Bjørn Okholm Skaarup's Hippo Ballerina
The giant sculpture ‘Hippo Ballerina’ is made by Danish-born (Rudkøbing) artist Bjørn Okholm Skaarup.
‘Hippo Ballerina’ arrived at Torvet on 20 June 2023. She is 260 cm tall and weighs 850 kilos. The Ballerina is a well-travelled hippo - it has previously stood in New York, Miami, Florence, Dubai and Venice.
Bjørn Okholm Skaarup lives and works in Florence and New York respectively, but was born in Rudkøbing in 1973, and for the past 20 years he has been building his unique animal universe from his studios.
Okholm is affiliated with Galleri5000 in Odense.
