Cycle tour through coastal countryside and lagoons
This cycle tour in South Langeland takes you through the open coastal countryside around Bagenkop. You’ll cycle along narrow roads between Klise Nor and the reclaimed Magleby Nor, where the views of the salt marshes and the sea lend the tour a special sense of tranquillity. The landscape is characterised by the distinctive hat-shaped hills, which were formed during the last ice age and still leave their distinct mark on Langeland.
Hat-shaped hills and views in southern Langeland
Along the way, you cycle through farmland and small villages, where the hat-shaped hills rise up as striking features in the landscape. The route passes, among other places, Fakkebjerg, one of the highest hat-shaped hills on Langeland, from where there are views of the South Funen Archipelago and the Langeland Belt. The route continues towards Dovns Klint, the island’s southernmost area, where nature and the sea meet.
Stories from Bagenkop and the surrounding area
Bagenkop is the starting point for the tour and a bustling harbour town with strong maritime roots. Along the way, you’ll hear about the area’s history, including fishing, the railway to Bagenkop and life around the harbour. The route also features several cultural and historical sites, including Hulbjerg Jættestue, one of Langeland’s best-preserved stone tombs.

The area around Bagenkop offers many experiences. Here you can visit Fiskeriets Hus, experience art in the local art towers or take a walk at Dovns Klint and Gulstav. Southern Langeland is part of the UNESCO Global Geopark ‘The South Funen Archipelago’, where Ice Age landscapes, hat-shaped hills and coastal nature tell the story of the islands’ geology and nature.

The cycle tour mainly follows small tarmac roads through open countryside and small villages. A few short stretches may be on gravel or busier roads. The tour is best suited to visitors who are used to cycling longer distances on gently undulating terrain. Bagenkop can be reached by public transport to the local area, after which the tour continues by bike.
