‘Steder’

At the Langeland Visitor Centre, you can experience the special exhibition “Places”, which pays tribute to Langeland’s Honorary Citizen Alfio Bonanno and his many years of work as an artist on Langeland.

The exhibition unfolds the site-specific – the common thread throughout Bonanno’s entire body of work – and presents pieces from, among other places, Lampedusa, the “Island of Death,” Etna, and Langeland. Several of the works will be familiar to the public, while others are being shown for the very first time.

“Places” encompasses a wide range of artistic expressions: from paintings and installations to photographs and performances. Together, they offer an intimate insight into Bonanno as an artist – and his deep, sensory connection to the places he works in and with.

Works on Langeland

Alfio Bonanno has left a significant mark on the art scene of Langeland — both as the visionary behind the Land Art park TICKON, and as an artist with eight public artworks spread across much of the island.

The Art Route guides you to the works

On the art route in Rudkøbing, you’ll encounter four of Alfio Bonanno’s works – from his debut piece Granit Environment, which marked his entry into the field of sculpture, to his newest work, Lone’s Bench.

On the art route in Tranekær, you can experience Bonanno’s passion project, the Land Art Park TICKON, for which he is the originator, as well as the artwork Between Copper Beech and Oak.

On the art route in Bagenkop, you’ll find a single work by Bonanno – a somewhat unconventional steel piece created in collaboration with the now-closed local company Alustål.

Alfio Bonanno – Works in the World

Alfio Bonanno’s Land Art projects have taken him far and wide, and his works can be found across the globe: From Earth to Sky (2010) rises eight metres above the bog in Lough Boora; Where Lizards Lose Their Tail (1999) winds its way through the forest shadows in Shikoku; and Organic Refuge (2014) merges body and landscape in the Royal Botanical Gardens, Canada.

Bonanno has also left his mark in Denmark – with The Fossil Snail (1992) in Krakamarken near Randers, Sky High (2004) on Kalvebod Fælled, and the Tankefuld Project (2012–14) in Svendborg – and of course on Langeland. He has received several international awards for his work, including the Italian Order of Knighthood OSSI (Ordine della Solidarietà Italiana) in 2006.
