A market town with layers upon layers of stories
The city walk takes you through Rudkøbing's old streets, where the Middle Ages and modern life meet. You will gain a unique insight into the city's development through historic merchant's houses, hidden backyards and the connection between the market town and the manor houses.
Great personalities and little anecdotes
Along the way, you will meet both the famous and the forgotten: H.C. Ørsted, Anders Sandøe Ørsted and Mads Lange – but also the town's local eccentrics, tragic figures and passionate souls. Each story is told with a twinkle in the eye and an eye for the human touch.
Art in the town and art in nature
Rudkøbing has a vibrant artistic pulse – from Alfio Bonanno's internationally renowned nature works to ‘Ballerinen’, the iconic hippopotamus sculpture in the town square. You will spot art in both urban spaces and backyards.
Future, community and change
The tour also provides an insight into contemporary Langeland – from the Shores project and new architecture in Ørstedparken to the story of a community in motion. The town is part of the UNESCO Global Geopark South Funen Archipelago, and this is evident in the stories.
Guided with presence, professionalism and personality
The city walk is led by two experienced and passionate guides with deep local roots:
Eva Söderberg
Retired teacher and art historian with many years of experience in local communication. Eva is known for her warm storytelling style and ability to bring the city's architecture and art to life.
Karen Elberg
Ethnologist and professional guide with a background in cultural communication in South Funen since 2001. Karen is behind Meet the Locals and guides with an eye for the big picture and human stories.
The tour is conducted in Danish, with the option of German, Swedish or English by arrangement.
