Bagenkop's fishing village

Explore the Fishermen's Quarter, where the harbour meets the city and the city meets the countryside. Here you will find a unique maritime atmosphere that exudes the past and present, history and cosiness.

Explore the fishermen's cottages and harbour life in Bagenkop

If you really want to experience the unique maritime atmosphere in Bagenkop, wander down behind the harbour to the old original fishermen's cottages, which are now being renovated one by one. Here you will find over 100 years of history, where fishermen once mended their nets, stored their fishing gear and chewed tobacco while talking about the wind and weather.

Today, some of the fishermen's cottages have been converted into shops, galleries and tasteful second-hand shops – all with respect for their original history. In other houses, you will still find fishing nets and fishing equipment from the area's small and large fishermen, which still give the area an authentic scent of tar and the salty sea breeze. In the same area is Fiskeriets Hus, an analogue and local museum house where the history of fishing is commemorated and communicated to young and old alike. If you want to experience the area properly, a visit is a must.

Afterwards, you can shop for quality clothing, local products and goods at Fiskerhytten, browse or try the very special print art at the Momlis gallery – and perhaps finish off with a fish cake at the fish shop. If you want to experience more of the maritime history, take a walk along the harbour and coast and get fresh red cheeks from the sea air.

In the Fiskerhus neighbourhood, you will find:

  • Momlis – gallery and experience shop
  • Fiskeriets Hus – analogue museum
  • Fiskerhytten – clothing, handicrafts, local beer, pictures, etc.
  • Rom Sø – meeting place, seasonal café and meeting room
  • Fiskerhuset – changing exhibitions and shop by local artists
  • Fiski – fish shop
