Festive lecture & award ceremony
The H.C. Ørsted Award Ceremony on Langeland is an annual event that honours innovative Danish researchers and pioneers in science, technology and innovation. The awards ceremony takes place in Rudkøbing on Langeland, surrounded by the island's beautiful landscape where tradition, culture and science merge. It's a day of inspiration as respected scientists gather to honour one of Denmark's greatest scientists, H.C. Ørsted. Ørsted, and the contributions he has made to both national and international science.
The H.C. Ørsted Prize marks an important step in recognising those who continue to drive society forward with their groundbreaking research and ideas. It's a tribute to the power of science to change the world - and a reminder of how important ingenuity and curiosity are to the future of society. Each year, with the support of the energy company Ørsted, a researcher prize of DKK 50,000 and two research talent prizes of DKK 10,000 each are awarded. In addition, two student grants of DKK 50,000 each are awarded. The research prize is accompanied by a small statuette entitled ‘Butterfly’ in silver and enamel mounted on an elm wood base, created by artist Sabine Majus Hansen from Langeland. The title refers to the fact that H.C. Ørsted is associated with the word butterfly. The award also consists of a special diploma with the title ‘Hans Christian Ørsted Award’.
