IN THE SAME BOAT at Lohals Boat Builders

Join us on a maritime voyage without leaving Lohals. At Lohals Boat Builders, Kristian Hansen from Svendborg Museum will talk about the IN THE SAME BOAT project, in which the museum sailed around Denmark on the ship VIKING in search of new insights into maritime cultural environments.

What use is maritime history today?

During the voyage, Svendborg Museum visited both living and revitalised maritime cultural environments. Here, the project explored how maritime history and cultural heritage can continue to play a role in areas such as community, learning, well-being and craftsmanship. This narrative fits in well with Lohals Boat Builders, where the work on wooden boats helps to preserve and carry forward the maritime cultural heritage.

The evening will also feature an update from Lohals Boat Builders. Here you can hear about the current projects, take a look at some of the boats and learn more about the craftsmanship involved. Along the way, there’ll also be time for some great stories from the maritime world.

When visiting Lohals, there are several attractions close to the harbour. Take a stroll around Lohals Harbour, or head out into the countryside north of the town. Here you’ll find, amongst other things, Vestre Stigtehave with its old, gnarled oak trees and paths close to the coast. You can also visit Lohals Nordstrand or make your way to the northern tip of Langeland and enjoy the view of the sea.
