On the occasion of ‘Light in the Darkness’, you can visit the fire station in Rudkøbing.

  • See the fire station tower from 1950 (unfortunately, the tower cannot be visited in case of rain)
  • The fire station's vehicles are on display.
  • Hear about the daily life of the island's firefighters – and find out how you can become a firefighter.

The fire station in Rudkøbing was inaugurated on 19 November 1950 and was designed by architect Rasmus Madsen.

The tower:

The fire station's 18-metre-high tower was previously used to look out over the town – especially during thunderstorms, if the telephone was cut off, the firefighters stood ready in the tower to be able to respond quickly in the event of a lightning strike.

The tower has also been used for hanging and drying fire hoses. The outside of the tower was used for exercises so that firefighters could practise climbing.

The tower provided access to the ‘Firefighters' Uniform Cleaning Room’.

For safety reasons, the tower cannot be visited in case of rain.
