Discover the aesthetics of the knot in Kunsttårn 5 – ‘Vinterhi’ by Annette Jersild

In the middle of Lismosevej in the Langeland countryside stands Kunsttårn 5 – a former transformer tower converted into an art tower with a unique work created by textile artist Annette Jersild. Here, the knot – one of the oldest and most practical human techniques – has been given the leading role in the tactile work ‘Vinterhi’.

Knots as imagery

Annette Jersild, who has roots in Vindeby and lives alternately in Copenhagen and on Langeland, has been working with knotting, macramé and networks in her textile works for many years.

In ‘Vinterhi’, her fascination is refined into one central motif: the knot. The work consists of knots tied in jute rope, which is wrapped in flax tape – a material previously used to insulate water pipes, but here dyed in shades that interact with the light and shadows inside the tower.

It is not weaving, but knotting. An ancient craft given new artistic meaning – both physical and symbolic.

From networks to simplicity

Annette Jersild previously worked with layered nets, where complexity created depth and perspective. But over the years, the knot came to the fore – as both structure and message.

In Vinterhi, the knot is not just a technique, but a medium. An expression of connection and closeness, but also of the filtered, the complex and the sensual.

From macramé to paper art

Although the knots in the tower are physical and tangible, Annette Jersild now also works with new materials such as paper weaving and small diary images. Common to all her works is a deep respect for textile craftsmanship and a continuing exploration of structure, rhythm and surface.

Her more recent paper works show clear traces of weaving and knotting – but translated into weaving, folding and painting.

Langeland's light and mist

Annette Jersild draws inspiration for her work and much of her art from nature and the light on Langeland. From her home in Vindeby, with its view of the meadows and the special mist that creates a soft, reflective light, she finds a peace and inspiration that is often embedded in her works.

Langeland's Art Towers - a unique way of experiencing art

Denmark's longest art exhibition can be experienced by visiting 12 former electrical transformer towers on Langeland. The art towers give visitors an artistic experience in the heart of the Langeland countryside.
From North to South and East to West, you can explore the cultural landscape and enjoy art in rural peace and quiet.

The towers are open all year round. A tour around them all will always offer a new experience, influenced by both the season and weather.
