Art Tower 7:

From golden dress to community

Jonna Pedersen's decoration of Langeland's Art Tower No. 7 is entitled Sammenhold (Togetherness). The work is an installation consisting of textile works, rope and linoleum prints. The starting point is Queen Margrete I (1353–1412), ruler of Denmark, Norway and Sweden – and her iconic gold dress.

‘Queen Margrete I is a historical role model of diplomatic strength and the ability to bring people together – qualities that are more important today than ever,’ explains Jonna Pedersen.

The elements of the installation hang and unfold in the space: a modern coat of arms as a contemporary symbol of connectedness, braids in fabric and rope as concrete expressions of human bonds. On the wall is a linoleum print of Margrete's face – inspired by her sarcophagus in Roskilde Cathedral. The artist's interpretation of the queen's golden shoes floats from the ceiling.

Symbols, threads and cohesion

The artwork weaves history and the present together in a poetic visual language where every detail has meaning.

Jonna Pedersen's work revolves around how clothing can express values, attitudes and tell stories about who we are. The golden dress becomes a symbol of the inner strength we all carry within us – the strength to act, create and be something for others. The dress is placed against a background of dandelions – the modest but indomitable flower that breaks through resistance and blooms wherever it wants.

The artwork invites reflection on how historical figures and their stories can still inspire us today – to find strength, create community and cherish what binds us together.

An artist with an eye for identity and history

Jonna Pedersen unites the aesthetic with the existential in works that leave their mark and provoke thought.

Jonna Pedersen works with themes such as existence, culture and identity – often through the use of iconic clothing as an expression of human values. Her works balance between the festive and the contemplative, and they contain many layers of meaning that only unfold upon closer inspection.

She is a graduate of art schools in Copenhagen and London and holds a Master of Arts degree from the University of Southern Denmark. Pedersen has exhibited internationally and is represented in several collections and museums in Denmark and abroad.

Langeland's Art Towers - a unique way of experiencing art

Denmark's longest art exhibition can be experienced by visiting 12 former electrical transformer towers on Langeland. The art towers give visitors an artistic experience in the heart of the Langeland countryside.
From North to South and East to West, you can explore the cultural landscape and enjoy art in rural peace and quiet.

The towers are open all year round. A tour around them all will always offer a new experience, influenced by both the season and weather.
