Music and magic in the Bell Tower

Step into a playful sound universe created from recycled materials, curiosity and musical imagination.

Bjørn Eriksen's decoration of Kunsttårn 12 is entitled Klokketårnet (The Bell Tower) – an interactive work of art where visitors encounter a collection of unique, handmade musical instruments, all created from recycled materials. When you enter the tower, a piece of music composed by the artist himself is activated – with musical accompaniment by guitarist Tin Soheili.

The instruments, which are both works of art and musical toys, invite everyone – children and adults alike – to try them out, play with them and create sound. This is not about perfection, but about play, curiosity and the immediate joy of music.

From grandchild to sustainable sound art

A birthday present was the starting point for a whole little world of homemade instruments.

The idea for the work came about when Bjørn Eriksen gave his grandson a small guitar as a fifth birthday present. The child didn't care if the guitar was in tune – he just wanted to play and sing. This sparked something in the artist: a desire to create musical instruments that require no prior knowledge, but open the door to spontaneous joy and creativity.

In Klokketårnet, playfulness and creativity are united in a musical experience that everyone can participate in, regardless of age and experience.

An artist with an ear for change

Bjørn Eriksen moves in the field of tension between visual art and sound – always with transformation as the focal point.

Visual artist and composer Bjørn Eriksen depicts mental states and the transformations of life in both images and sound. His visual art encompasses the sensual and the thought-provoking, while his music ranges from children's songs and ballads to classical symphonies. In 2024, FAME*S Symphony Orchestra recorded his 10th symphony, EVOLUTION.

He trained at the Danish Design School and has exhibited widely in Denmark and internationally, including in New York, Berlin, Amsterdam and at Danish museums such as the Heerup Museum and Frederikshavn Kunstmuseum. In 2025, he will exhibit at the Museum Ovartaci.

Langeland's Art Towers - a unique way of experiencing art

Denmark's longest art exhibition can be experienced by visiting 12 former electrical transformer towers on Langeland. The art towers give visitors an artistic experience in the heart of the Langeland countryside.
From North to South and East to West, you can explore the cultural landscape and enjoy art in rural peace and quiet.

The towers are open all year round. A tour around them all will always offer a new experience, influenced by both the season and weather.
