Langeland is a mecca for handicrafts; glass art, ceramics, weaving, paper cutting, jewelry art, gyotaku (print with fish) etc. The diversity and creative spirit is great and the quality is high.

Arts and crafts on Langeland

Arts and crafts thrive on Langeland, and there are several places on the island where you can get up close to the craft by visiting the artisans’ shops and open workshops. The artisans are based all over the island, from Hou in the north to Bagenkop in the south.

Ceramics

The large quantities of clay in the soil on Langeland have contributed to the pottery trade flourishing on the island – in the 1970s, there were even two ceramics factories on the island: Lindelse Keramikfabrik and Løvmose Keramik. Even today, potters thrive on Langeland.

Weaver Jette Nevers is not an artist. She is a craftsperson. As she says: “If the craftsmanship isn’t there, there’s no art either”.
