Potters on Langeland
The large quantities of clay in Langeland’s soil have helped to ensure that the pottery trade has flourished on the island – in the 1970s, there were several large pottery factories. To this day, potters continue to thrive on Langeland.
Ceramic sculptures
Lars Calmar, from Humble, with his grotesque figures – drawn in blue BicPen or crafted in ceramic – stands in stark contrast to Anette Valstrøm, from Tullebølle, whose more refined ceramic works evoke memories with human features.

We spoke to the Langeland-based potters, Poul Erik Eliasen and Søren Baun Jeppesen, about their processes and the differences in their work. Ceramics expert Hans-Henrik Dyhr praises the two potters’ glazes. Heerwagen talks about their iconic style, which has remained unchanged since 1964.
