Art Towers on Langeland
Denmark’s longest art exhibition – art displayed in 12 former transformer towers across Langeland.

Art in portrait format
An Art Tower is not a traditional gallery. The floor area measures just approximately 1.5 × 1.5 metres, whilst the ceiling is around eight metres high. This tall, narrow space presents artists with a unique challenge: the entire tower must be conceived as a single, unified work of art. The result may take the form of sculptures, paintings, textile art, sound art, digital works or installations that make use of the tower’s height and architecture.
Denmark’s longest art exhibition came about
When the visual artist Hans Kjær read in the local newspaper that Langeland’s disused transformer towers were to be demolished, he had a brilliant idea – an idea that would go on to become Denmark’s longest art exhibition.
12 art towers with free admission
Together, the 12 art towers form Denmark’s longest art exhibition – an art trail through the island’s landscape from north to south.
The art towers are open 24 hours a day, all year round, and it’s free to pop in and have a look.
