Art in Nature
The Tranekær Art Route focuses on art created from natural materials – so-called Land Art.
The 4 km-long route starts at Jan Axel Starup’s ‘Galakse’ and takes you through the castle town and into the TICKON Land Art Park, which surrounds Tranekær Castle. The park’s art installations and sculptures have been created by some of the world’s most renowned artists working in this genre.
Along the route, you’ll find:

+ 1 craftsperson

Works along the route
In the castle grounds, you can experience what is known as site-specific art – an art form in which the often gigantic artworks are constructed on site using organic materials, such as wood, earth and stone. This creates works that, in a marvellous way, become part of nature, yet are at the same time subject to nature’s forces of decay, eventually disappearing entirely. In other words, as well as great beauty, you experience the cycle of life in artistic form.
For this very reason, only 14 of the original works remain today, as the whole concept is that the works are not to be maintained or repaired. Instead, entirely new works of art are continually being added, with the support of various foundations.

The Art Route
The Art Route allows you to combine major art and cultural experiences with visits to individual artists and craftspeople, whilst exploring Langeland’s most beautiful countryside and passing by art in public spaces.
