Icons, abstract art, portraits, landscape paintings, paper cut-outs, prints and more - the visual arts take many forms on Langeland.

The diversity of the visual arts
Several of the island’s visual artists came here because of the Magleby Art College. The college operated from 1983 to 2001 and could accommodate 40 students. It offered a wide range of courses and attracted many artists, both as tutors and students. Several of these artists still live on Langeland.

Women in Art
On Langeland, the nature of art is such that roots must be established before it can blossom. The ideas and commitment are not based on grants and donations, but on personal determination.
It is probably precisely this fact that explains why women, in particular, flourish as artists on Langeland. Around half of the practising artists on the island are women.
